Clive Barker to raise ‘Hell’ again

The cover of CLIVE BARKER'S HELLRAISER #1, coming in March from BOOM! Studios.

While the proposed Hollywood remake of Clive Barker’s Hellraiser continues its stint in developmental purgatory, BOOM! Studios is ready to reunite the author with his most famous creation.

Clive Barker’s Hellraiser, a new ongoing series from BOOM!, will feature work by Barker in at least its first issue. The publisher’s initial information does not indicate the extent of Barker’s role in that first issue, or beyond. Comments at Barker’s official website indicate that Christopher Monfette is co-writer of the series with Barker, and that it will fall in line with the mythology developed in the first two Hellraiser movies. Leonardo Manco is the artist for the first issue.

BOOM! editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon said in a press release about the new series: “It’s been unbelievably gratifying to develop this series and witness the visceral, relentless, and shocking story that Clive has in store for a new generation of horror fans.”

This is not Pinhead and company’s first foray into comics: the Epic imprint from Marvel Comics published a long-running anthology series, also titled Clive Barker’s Hellraiser, in the early ’90s that featured work by Neil Gaiman, John Bolton, Mike Mignola and many others. BOOM! will be reprinting much, if not all, of this material in a separate series called Hellraiser: Masterworks. Both the new ongoing series and the reprints will debut in March.
